Friday December 17, 2010 Last day of school before Winter Break
Our friends, Pam and Bill Cutcliff invited us for a delicious spaghetti and meatball dinner before the basketball game on Friday night. The mimivan was called into action because it was my turn to drive with Laurie and Neal Ogle after she drove to the Jingle Bell run on Saturday. They also have a van and we usually take turns hauling people to events. Tonight, the Mimivan came in handy as we decided after dinner to all ride together to the Zionsville vs HSE basketball game where Mark Ogle was starting for the Varsity. We had a fun time together the short distance we rode and got there safely, which was my main goal. Some very precious cargo was in the car as my two best friends, Pam and Laurie and their husbands and mine were inside. HSE won the game, Mark played well and we returned safely to Pam and Bill's house.
I bought a used 2003 Honday Odyssey minivan. I have three grandchildren and couldn't get three car seats in a regular sedan so when this became available I bought it with the idea of taking the grandkids on adventures. I also enjoy taking my friends on adventures especially ones that include hiking or beaches.

Fair Oak Farms
One of the fun places we went in June with the MimiVan was up I-65 to Fair Oak Farms. It is a working dairy farm with an educational/tourist tone to it. You can just get off the exit and have a superb grilled cheese and wander around the relaxing outside or you can pay a fee and get access to the milking and birthing barns plus the interactive educational exhibits inside. We did the whole show and had a great day. We were most facinated by the birthing barn. They have a stoplight outside in the yard and when they light is red there is not action, when it is yellow, hoofs have appeared, and when it is green a birth is about to happen. We saw several calfs born and the highlight since we have a boy/girl set of twins was seeing a boy/girl set of calves born that day. We enjoyed a havarti pepper grilled cheese, bought some to take home and to friends and got some ice cream to go. A very enjoyable and memorable day for all. I highly recommend it for kids and adults as a nice destination or as a stopoff on the way to Chicago.
Longboat Key
Our summer home away from home is at Longboat Key, Florida. Yes, we know it is hot but it is hot in Indiana and we don't have the ocean breezes. We have been coming here since 1986 and we start relaxing as soon as we get there. We do sunbathing, reading, eating as our main activities. This year we were blessed to have Kory, Kristy and Heather and the grandkids, Kameron, Haleigh and Karson with us. Grandkids are perfect entertainment, nothing else is needed.
Summer 2010 Walt Disney World and Longboat Key
The adventure for the summer was loaning the mimivan to Kory and Heather to take the grands to Disney World, we flew down and met them. The mimivan was the economical way for a family of 5 to get to Florida. The mimivan had a desired feature of the VCR player for the kids. Kameron is a fan of the VCR player. Haleigh and Karson lose interest pretty quickly and still need other things to entertain them.
